Our commitment to clinical safety

Peak's goal is to provide affordable relief-focused options for psychedelic mental health care. In recent months, we recognize there has been tremendous progress towards a more accessible health care system, as well as a broader call for the adoption of psychedelic therapy into modern practice. Peak is thrilled to see more people prioritizing mental health with increased access to the latest forms of psychedelic treatment.

In light of these developments, here are some insights into how Peak ensures clinical safety at every step of our program.

Ketamine therapy is not for everyone

Though we strive to help as many people as possible, we recognize that ketamine therapy is not for everyone. Prospective clients start with an online assessment to identify if our program is the right fit. As we prioritize clinical guidelines and patient safety, Peak does not offer our services to anyone with the following criteria:

  • Clients younger than 18 or older than 65
  • Those pregnant or nursing
  • Those struggling with substance dependence
  • Psychotic disorders or those with history of psychotic symptoms
  • History of or presence of eating disorders
  • Severe personality disorders
  • Vital sign instability
  • Unstable medical conditions including but not limited to: chronic cardiac or respiratory illnesses, seizure disorder, or thyroid disease

In combination with state and federal guidelines, these clinical criteria follow established evidence-based practices regarding the use of ketamine for mental health indications.

Peak provides ketamine therapy primarily for treatment-resistant depression as well as PTSD and anxiety disorders. We strongly caution against the use of at-home ketamine care for those with more serious conditions that include severe bipolar disorder and/or substance use disorders. Clients must have a documented history of traditional pharmacologic interventions (including prescriptions of SSRI or SNRI antidepressants) to be eligible for ketamine therapy with Peak.

Engagement at every step

Our care team prioritizes patient safety throughout every step of the treatment journey. After the initial assessment, a Peak Care Coordinator reaches out to confirm medical history and review safety guidelines. After providing a step-by-step explanation of the treatment process, we encourage prospective patients to ask clarifying questions in order to make an informed decision about their healing journey.

Upon deciding to proceed with treatment, clients then meet with their prescribing clinician for an in-depth medical and psychiatric evaluation. Our board-certified licensed clinicians follow a comprehensive medical protocol to ensure every patient consistently receives a personalized treatment plan based on their needs.

Peak's treatment program consists of two parts: an initial period of dose discovery followed by a maintenance plan to stabilize and manage remission. Clinicians meet with patients each month to monitor progress, review health changes, and update prescriptions as necessary. Patients are also encouraged to reach out to the care team at any time with questions or concerns between clinical meetings.

In addition to ketamine therapy, our integration coaches offer patients access to Peak's proprietary wellness program with personalized weekly routines and twice-monthly virtual meetings. Coaches also host weekly classes to teach about preparation, integration, and various topics around mental health. These sessions provide essential guidance throughout the treatment process to help patients make the most of their experience with Peak.

Safety and Support are our top priorities

Peak clinicians carefully verify clinical information to ensure all contraindications and safety precautions are considered before writing a prescription. This includes a comprehensive medical history, vital sign monitoring, and assessing psychiatric eligibility. If clinicians discover that patient-provided information is inconsistent with prescription or psychiatric records, Peak reserves the right to refuse service and may refer care somewhere more suitable when clinically appropriate.

Peak requires all patients to arrange an on-site Support Person to be available during medical treatments. A Support Person must be an adult (usually a family member or significant other) specified during the intake process and capable of fostering a secure space during ketamine therapy. Patients who cannot arrange for a Support Person are asked to participate at a later time when they have the appropriate support.

Personalized care to meet unique needs

We use a specific weight-based protocol as the baseline for dosing and frequency of treatment, adopted from evidence-based guidelines for IV treatments. Our clinicians regularly monitor client feedback to make sure dose changes are made when clinically appropriate. For patients who require higher than average doses or more frequent treatments than our program allows, we often make referrals to local clinics where they can receive more intensive treatment with closer medical monitoring.

Our mission: safe and guided access to breakthrough treatment

Peak’s specialized psychedelic therapy combines ketamine sessions with personalized coaching, educational classes, and integration circles. Our medical protocol is designed to help patients with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, or PTSD find relief using the latest breakthroughs in mental health treatment. We aspire to help patients become less reliant on medication and more focused on self-healing through coaching and therapy.

Dosing and frequency are tapered down over time until clients feel prolonged clarity and relief. Our ultimate goal is to help patients achieve full remission with minimal or no pharmacological intervention. Once achieved, our coaches will continue to provide ongoing emotional support to maintain balance and remain available for further guidance as needed.
